How To Make Organic Compost At Home

Compost preparation is a simple process that any gardener can do. Additionally garden compost is beneficial because it improves soil structure by favoring ventilation, helps in water retention of the soil and plants are less exposed to diseases and pests.

What do you need to make your own compost? Well, ingredients with high nitrogen content like:
-vegetable scraps
-mowed grass debris
-mowed lawn
-weeds
-manure
-coffee grounds

Or ingredients with high carbon content:
-sawdust
-tree bark
-dry leaves
-cardboard and shredded newspaper
-straw
-ashes 2-3 kg / m3

What you should keep in mind when you’re preparing compost:

The ratio between carbon and nitrogen is recommended to be 30: 1, for a rapid decomposition. As you grow more nitrogen ratio, the decomposition will take longer.
Composting is done in a wooden or plastic container which provides good aeration, otherwise bacteria developed will lead to waste rotting, causing an unbearable smell.
Ingredients humidity must be 40-50%.

Careful! Don’t put in compost the following ingredients:
-meat and / or bones
-plastic
-glass
-metal
